Christmas In July – Masculine Christmas Card Tutorial

Oh gosh! It’s been ages! More than a month to be exact. Last post was the start of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge, and I did not finish it. I thought that my energy was coming back but was hit with some really stressful news (don’t worry it’s all fixed now) so I got sick and haven’t been able to craft at all since. But I’m back today with a Christmas in July card.

I did record this in December but didn’t have time to edit it before I went on vacation, and I finally did! I really really love how the coloring came out so I’ve been eager to share it with you.

The stamp is a digital stamp from Make It Crafty called Waving Santa. I went with the standard Christmas colors, and the card actually went very masculine when I finished it and again really liked the finished card. The background is a masked background stamp from Simon Says Stamp together with a sentiment stamp from My Favourite Things. Super simple but still packs a punch.

I also decided to make a real-time coloring video from the coloring as I had more things to say about the coloring that would fit in a standard card video. Hope you enjoy them both! In the coloring video I bring up a bunch of coloring people I love, so thought I would link them here too 🙂

Day 1 – 30 Day Coloring Challenge

Decided to join the 30 Day Coloring Challenge hosted by Kathy over at TheDailyMarker.com. I even decided to record all the coloring and post real-time coloring videos every day!

For Day 1 I’m coloring a character from the Forever Friends stampset from stamptember (think it was 2017). So sorry these are no longer available at simon says stamp any more. But I will put my used stampset up in my etsy store. But if you don’t want to wait for it, just message me. Enjoy the video!

5 ways to tint embossing paste

In todays video I’m showing you 5 ways to tint your embossing paste. I love experimenting with the materials I have in my craft room, trying to extend them as much as possible. One way of doing that is to go for the white and transparent mediums first and then use the coloring materials you already have in your craftroom to get all the colors you want. I choose five coloring mediums, some of them are new in my craft room and some are old and rarely used. I’ve choosen to sort of stay in one color group both because it makes it easier to compare, but also so I could easier make all of them in to similar cards.

While I’m using Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste, you can try this with any texture paste. A little disclaimer though, the packaging says to use waterbased dyes, and the first test I did was with Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks, and it turned out great for me, but I can’t promise it will work with any other kinds of pastes. So if you test this with your own pastes, try it with a smaller batch and not on your main project, to make sure that the paste dryes as it should.

My first test was with the Mermaid Alcohol Ink by Tim Holtz. I love the color it created and it was very easy to make a nice blend with it.

Stenciled embossing paste tinted with alcohol ink.

The second test was with Sublime Alcohol Pearl Ink, and even tho the pearl effect didn’t come through, it seems like it broke down and made these beautiful speckles with in the paste.

The third test is with the Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours in the color Cobalt Turquoise Light. This was not only the easiest to blend, but it was also the most potent, needing least added color.

The fourth medium is Gelato in the color Cotton Candy. I ended up doing two test with this, I still count it as one way though. I started off by cutting a little bit of gelato off and then mix it directly into the paste, I call it dry blending. It took a lot of time, and I finally gave up letting it have small speckles of the unblended gelato in the paste.

So I decided to try it again, this time blending the gelato with water first. This made a big difference reducing the speckles to almost nothing. I think if I’ve been more patient it might not had any speckles.

Stenciled embossing paste tinted with wet blended gelato.

For the fifth and final test I wanted to see if I could get the matte & white paste a little more pearlescent, so I added a very new addition to my craft room. Some Nuvo Mica Mist in the color Silver Smoke. I’m sad to say that it really didn’t do anything but give it a very light grey tint. But I did like the grey, so it wasn’t a complete waste.

For some final words, I loved playing around mixing different things and I recommend you doing it too. Have you tinted paste before? What kind of materials have you used?

No-Line Coloring Mermaids!

Hi! I have totally fallen in love with the no-line coloring technique, Zoe over at Make It Crafty started it years ago and it came back about a year ago. I was very hesitant, even a little bit scared of trying. But now that I have, I just can’t stop!

I love the softness that it creates, but in todays card (and video) I’m trying it out with some more stronger colors to see if it works. And I kind of like it! Also this is another mermaid creation as I love mermaids and during may in the art world people do mermay, and I decided to join is this year, so all my creations will be mermaid inspired this month.

Pizza My Heart

Hi! I was planning for my next video and I knew I wanted to use Lawn Fawn Stamps. So I headed over to Lawn Fawnatics to see what the latest challenge is and if it would fit my plans. The challenge is Fun With Food! but it ends tomorrow and there is no way I’m turning around a video in that time.

I knew I really wanted to join in with the challenge, and I have a super cute set called Pizza My Heart that I hardly used. So I decided to just make a blogpost about it.

Mini pizza box

I just had to make a pizza box, and after playing around with a couple of different cardstocks, I tried it with some red patterned paper from the Real Rainbow 6×6 set and it was perfect. However I did realise that I wanted my pizza to have a little dimension, so I turned it into a little shaker card. I coloured the pizzas with copics, well just one full one, the other other one I cut out the inners and backed it with some acetate to make the shaker window. I cut up some double-sided foamtape into strips, and removed the backing so it would be easier to create a circle with. For the shaky bits I stamped loads of those topping stamps with different coloured Lawn FawenThose little vegetables took forever to cut out, but it was totally worth it! Don’t you think?

Doodlebug Design Haul

Hi! My first craft supply order for 2019 just came and I’m so excited with all the products so I wanted to share them with you. My order came in from Scrapbook.com and if it hadn’t been for it getting stuck in customs, which all packages do now a days, it would have been here super fast. I prefer to get my packages with anything else than postnord, which means I need the packages not to go with USPS from the states.

However this “only” took 2 weeks from entering Sweden to arrive and right now I’m super excited to get to play with all the crafty stuff. This order is only Doodlebug Designs products, which by the way is on sale at Scrabook.com at the moment! I’ve been ogling the B6 travelers notebooks covers for awhile, as I’m trying to get better at planning, and I finally bit the bullet at picked one up, together with some matching inserts. But Doodlebug Designs are my absolute favorite paper designers so I needed to pick up some new pattern paper packs and their new stamp collection, well not all but almost! I’m going to have so much fun playing with these supplies.

Btw if you want to join me on my planning journey, I started a channel just for that which you can find at Coffee & Planners.

Birthday Card Tutorial | No-Line Coloring

Hi everyone! In todays video tutorial I’m showing you how to use the no-line coloring technique on Jojo a digital stamp by Make It Crafty. And how to use that image for a more neutral birthday card.

Jojo is a part of a the Petal Sprites Collection which contains 6 equally cute characters. I did say I thought I had colored every character in this series, but after looking at it I had confused it with another collection and I now have 5 more adorable characters to make into cards!

I’ve used a very soft color combination, and a keen eye can see I used the same colores for the Bluebell fairy from the bloghop earlier this week. Well I did record this video awhile ago so it’s actually the other way around. I just fell in love with the blue purples and I might continue to use it more, maybe.

However the no-line coloring technique is something that most definitely will be used a lot more. It makes the images so much more dimensional and at the same time so much more soft. I still color images with lines to as I do believe that both ways have their own place in card making. The trick with no-line coloring is to make the lines soft enough so when the coloring is done you hardly can see the lines, while keeping them dark enough so you can see them when you are coloring. For me that is printing them with a 20% opacity when I’m using digis, or using London Fog Memento ink for when they are stamps. Another trick is to print/stamp one with black ink on some printer paper to have on the side for reference.

And then finally we have the card making. I knew I wanted to use a Make it Crafty chippy, but I didn’t have any matching happy in my stash (really need to place a new order soon) so I kept with the Birthday one and used my Birdie Brown Alphabet & Numbers Die-namics to write the word happy. I decided to color both the chippy and the diecuts with my markers to perfectly match the coloring. And that was how I put it all together!

If you have come this far, thank you so much for reading my blog, do you have any Make It Crafty Stamps that you want me to make a card with next? Comment down below.

Snowed In | Hersey Chocolate Bar Box

Hi everyone! I love making custom packaging to small gifts, and even something as simple as a Hersey Chocolate Bar can become a great present if you put a little time in creating the box and decorate it.

Hersey Chocolate Bar Box, decorated with stamps colored with copic markers.

The box itself is pretty straight forward to create, I made a blueprint with all the measurements for you if you want to recreate it. You can either just save the .png by right clicking on it or if you want a little higher quality you can download the the pdf HERE.

Blueprint of a box sized to fit a Hersey Chocolate Bar.

To decorate the box I decided to go with a small scene created with the Warm & Feathered Hugs stamp set. When creating it it was inches of snow outside and super cozy and all I wanted was to stay indoors and craft. I’ve used a blended layering technique to create some depth in the scene, I also stamped the trees in grey and black to give the trees some depth to. The lighter the tree the further away it feels. For the sentiment I stamped it in the blackest ink I have, and then added some clear embossing powder to make it stand out just a little bit extra.

To finish it up I used one of the owls, coloring in a no-line coloring technique to be able to give the feathers that whispy feeling. I also kept the owl in neutral colors, adding a pop of red to make the eye being pulled there first.

Blowing Kisses | Clean & Simple Valentine Cards

Good morning everyone! It’s been awhile! I apparently went on a three month hiatus, it wasn’t really planned. I ran out of time preparing for my three week vacation in December and when I got home life and mostly health sort of got in my way. But I finally sat down to do some coloring and gosh did I enjoy it, so I thought I would share the cards I ended up doing.

I did record everything so I also got a video tutorial for you, (I’m on a roll!). When I sat down I decided to work towards my only DT right now. Have been stepping down from most of them, feeling that I’ve not been dependable I decided to just do my own thing. However Make It Crafty was my first DT and when Zoe asked me to stay on I couldn’t say no, I do love her stamps and chippies and her!

I’m using Bailey Blowing Kisses Digi, and decided to print her out with some different opacity, going from 100% down to 25% to decided on which was my favorite. And I think I decided that 25% is a real nice one. Next time I might get even lower to see if I can do true no-line coloring.

After not coloring for three months! Gosh that is a long time, I thought starting in my comfort zone would be a good bet, not making it too hard on myself,. So I gave Bailey some pink hair and kept the rest of the image more neutral letting her expression and her har do the talking. I ended up coloring two images as I really wanted to try another kind of hair texture after the first one. I ended up using the footage from the second one as it was my favorite, who doesn’t love glittery hair?

To finish it off I made two very clean and simple cards. Really trying to make the image the star of the card, and with the softness that was created by having lighter lines, making the cards really simple made the images pop a lot more.
