How to Color Small Eyes with Copic Alcohol Markers

Hi Everyone!

Was asked over at the My Favorite Things facebook group how I color eyes with only the pupil in the stamp. So thought I would make a quick and simple tutorial showing how I do that. I will be trying to make more videos like this where I go in to small tips and tricks. I have a long list of them but if you want something special, just comment here on the blog or over at youtube and I’ll see what I can do. Enjoy!

My Favorite Things Color Challenge #82 and Sketch Challenge #362

Hi Everyone!

Challenges are my comfortzone, it was where I started making cards and it is there, among other places, I gather my inspiration. I have lately enhanced my stash with some wonderful things and I also have some that have become a little bit neglected. So I put a real challenge to myself. I was going to, in one card do both My Favorite Things Challenges, I would also use some products from my latest shopping spree over at mftstamps.com and I would use some of the older products in my stash. Below you can see the sketch and colour combo from Sketch Challenge #362 and Color Challenge #82.

I happen to have the Sampler Packs for the MFT Colored Cardstock but haven’t used them that much, I do love the cardstock but lately I’ve been mostly made water colored backgrounds and all my cardstock that wasn’t white has sort of just been sitting there, so for my older products I chosed my cardstock and decided that my challenge there was that I would use all the colors that was in the color challenge.

I followed the sketch but took some artistic freedoms, I put the sentiments a little wonky and chosed to use the square mod stitched dies instead of circular dies. The characters are colored with Copics and Polychromos onto Neenah Cardstock, which I love using when I combine pencils and copics.

I made mini scenes in the little mod squared. The top one has snowflakes and supposed to look like it’s snowing. The bottom one I used the greenish paper together with some Scenic Safari Dies and a white gel pen to make t look like there was a little bit of snow on some green hills.

Thank you for visiting!

Bauble Fairy – Glitter Effect Tutorial

Hi Everyone!

Make It Crafty has a new colouring challenge out and its glitter! And this time around I thought I would do a proper tutorial on how to colour glitter effects with copic markers and the help of a white gel pen. I’m not good at written tutorials so I hope you like videos. I created a little bauble pdf so that you can colour along with me. You can get it free here: Baubles

I also wanted a real-life application of the tutorial so made a cute little card with Bauble Fairy Reflection and a chipboard piece. Didn’t take into account the size of the chipboard when printing the image so was surprised when the fit was perfect. I left the chipboard al natural as I felt it fitted better with the colouring.

And to finish off here are the videos, I love to hear from you about what you think about the blog and the videos! Have fun!

Christmas Angel

Hi Everyone!

Marika here with a new card, this time it is my Secret Santa card from the Secret Santa that was held in the Make  It Crafty Facebook Group, if you missed out don’t worry, Zoe is always having something fun going on so come and join us!

Sometimes an idea for a card comes out of a wish to use a specific colour, in this case I saw a cool red that I just wanted to try to replicate. It had this wonderful brown undertone, so I experimented, I have previously used browns when I’ve done coloured pencil work so decided to try that with my copics and I really love how it came out (and are now using this combination all my Christmas cards this year). To make the red really stand out I’ve used E4os and Ws letting the red be the pop of colour. That in combination with the image being the Christmas Angel left me with a soft and sweet Christmas card. For the sentiment I’ve chosen to use the Christmas Adabt-a-word Chipboard Set and the Christmas Singel Word Chipboard Set, which I colored with the same inks as the background and then added glitter to.

I’m also back with making videos! So here are a start to finish video on how to make the card (with a sped up version of the colouring) and the colouring in real-time.

Glowing Fairy Star

Hi everyone!

Zoe over at Make It Crafty have brought back the colouring challenge! For me that is super exciting, as that was how I got introduced to Make It Crafty and alcohol markers. My first markers was spectrum noirs but through the years I now have collected a full set of copics. Through Zoes challenges I have grown as a colourist and since I’ve been a DT member for Make It Crafty she has continued to challenge me to evolve as an artist.

For the card today I’ve played with an older Christmas stamp called Fairy Star that is part of the Cute Christmas Fairy Collection, both which are on sale at the moment! If you want some more fun inspiration with this fairy stamp I have an old video where I made a card with it, which you can find HERE. The challenge is glow so decided that I wanted the star wand to glow. I wanted the glow to be subtle, to let a little bit of the base colour to show, so I added the lighter colours on top of the glow yellow.

To make it into a card, I made a background by smootching distress inks on top som Montval watercolour cardstock and then using a die to cut it out. For sentiment I used the Christmas Word Chipboard and Christmas Adapt-a-Word chipboard set  which I coloured with distress paints, I also added some red Stickles glitter glue to the Christmas word. To finish it off I added a little Star Snowflake.

Now come join us with the challenge! Remember we all start somewhere, and these challenges are a great place to learn new things.

I’m a mermaid fanatic, and these mermaids are just awesome! After creating the first one I just had to print a couple more with different faces and then I went crazy with the backgrounds. They all are using the same technique, but I love the third one most, which is your favourite? The technique used is a combination of smooching and blending using distress inks.

Elphaba Wishing You A Happy Halloween

Hi Everyone!

I’m a little bit late out with this, hope you all forgive me. Anyway Elphaba is wishing you a Happy Halloween!

Make It Crafty have these wonderful backgrounds but sometimes I struggle to make the card look clean when I use backgrounds. But I thought I would show you today how you can keep your card looking clean but still use them.

So I have a few steps that I go through when I create a card with a coloured background. This time around I didn’t add the focal image (Elphaba) to the background, instead I decided to colour her separately this makes placing a little bit easier as I do it after I coloured the images and there for can take the depth into account.
Also when printing the images I choose to use different lightness on the lines. Elphaba is printed in blank, while the fence is lighter and the house even lighter. This helping me when I colour as lighter things looks further away than darker and crisper images. And the last tips on colouring backgrounds is that I’ve chosen more muted colours for the background making the image stand out (also the muted colours also will makes things look further away).

The last thing I did for this card was to crop the background and place it on the side, both to help me place Elphaba better (I think I printed her a little bigger than I should have). But also to make room for a sentiment. The sentiment is one of the wonderful chippies also from Make It Crafty, I’ve coloured the back piece white, and the smaller piece black, both with Distress Paint. Then I added stickles on top, to give it a little extra pop.

When it came to Elphaba herself I’ve chose to have a limited colour palett. Choosing to give her green hair because it’s awesome, I left the rest of her very neutral as then you will be drawn to her pretty face.

By the way Make It Crafty have a 20% discount of chippies! So head over there and get some, they are wonderful to work with and just completely beautiful.

Craft on! Love Marika

Hello Pretty Pumpkin!

Hello fellow MIC lovers!

I’m here with a new card, you all must have seen the new to Make It Crafty images by Krista, which by the way is just awesome! Well I’ve used Pretty Pumpkin today and even though it lends itself to really strong fall colours with the girl holding the pumpkin and all I just needed to be different didn’t I ;). I had coloured her skin and was debating with myself which hair colour she should have, the only thing I knew was that I for once didn’t want to use the same colour scheme as Zoe, she is awesome at choosing colours.  So I picked out my lightest browns, the E40s and then the colour scheme just came together.

For the background I played with my go to smooshing technique, I want through 3 other backgrounds until decidingon this one. Using Tattered Rose, Weathered wood for the smooching and then splattered some Worn Lipstick and Ground Espresso over it.

For the last details I used some wonderful chippies also from Make ItCrafty. I have stars in three different sizes and the Hello sentiment. I coloured them with Distress Paint, and as I didn’t have either Worn Lipstick or Tattered Rose as paint I choose to blend some Abandoned Coral with some Picket Fence, I also didn’t have Weathered Wood so the grey stars are a metallic paint called Brushed Pewter, I then covered them all with some nice glitter glue.

Witchy Concoctions

Hi Everyone!

We all have periods in our life when we struggle for ideas, so to kickstart ours the MIC DT is playing with CASEing each others cards. CASE means Copy And Steal Everything, but just because you copy and steal you don’t need to get a card that is looking just the same.

I CASEd Deborah’s card and chose some key elements to copy but using different materials and colours. Come and join us and share your CASEing of Deborahs card in the Make it crafty facebook group.
